S. Korea to remove ActiveX web browser plug-in from all public organization websites by 2020


the South Korean government will remove
the active X web browser plug-in from all public organization websites by 2020
to enhance accessibility to such websites through more diverse web
browsers the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced last week the
program will be removed from over 2,700 public organization websites by the end
of next year beginning in August of this year the plug-in was removed from some
20 public organization websites including government 24 that’s a public
service portal that provides tailored public services to over 3 million
citizens a year now ActiveX was adopted by the South Korean government and
financial institutions here has a key tool for personal verification and web
security but it has drawn intense criticism not only because it was
vulnerable to cyber attacks but also because it was barely compatible with
any other browser than Internet Explorer
