SKR Pro V1.1 – 12864 LCD Graphic Smart Display Controller Board (RepRap)


today we’re gonna learn how to install
be RepRap discount full graphics smart controller on the BigTreeTech SKR Pro
version 1.1 now I need to point out some stuff first of all we have our EXP1
port here for our ribbon cable and then we have our EXP2 port now on the front
of this obviously we have our display then we have our piezo buzzer we have
our stop button or another way to call it is our reset button and then we have
our menu select knob that we can turn and then push down in order to select
the menu option that we would like now I’m gonna flip this over so you can see
the remainder of the things that we need to worry about here first of all we have
our EXP1 port in our EXP2 and then we have our SD card reader for loading
prints so to hook this up what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna hook up first of
all EXP1 and it has a notched connector that you’re gonna use right
here and you’re gonna match up the notches and then you’re gonna basically
just plug it in and then you’re gonna do the same on the other side next we’re
gonna do the other cable we’re gonna match up the notch connector again we’re
gonna apply a little bit of pressure to put it in and then we’re gonna do the
same with the notch connector over here and I’m gonna flip this over so that we
can meet in things up a little bit so there you go now in order to test it to
see that you’ve set it up correctly what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna connect to
the serial USB to the computer just to see
what happens here so we’re gonna connect the side to the printer and the other
side to a USB connection and see if the LCD lights up and currently it doesn’t and
the reason for that is we need to move the jumper for USB power for 5 volts
so we’re gonna remove this and move it over so that it’s connect it to the next
set of pins and then we’ll try it again and it appears to work so in order to
load the firmware on this we can’t do it through the USB serial cable so I’m
going to remove the power for a moment next I’m going to get our USB micro USB
SD adapter and I’m going to pop out the USB card for the TF drive I’m going to
plug it into here now make sure that it’s in the unlocked position which is
up we’re gonna insert this into the computer and you’re probably gonna hear
a beep all of this was purchased with my own money and I’ll leave links for
Amazon affiliates so you can figure out where to purchase these things okay now
that we have the SD card in the computer we can see that we only have firmware on
here so I’m gonna show you this in just a moment but note the date and time now
we’re gonna go over to ATOM with PlatformIO loaded now I need to
remind you of a couple things first of all this was downloaded from the Marlin
a firmware website then I unzipped it then I went to file and I did open
folder on the Marlin unzipped folder so the next thing that we want to do in
here now that we have it loaded is we want to go to the Marlin subfolder we
want to go to the source folder and we want to go to the core folder inside
here we want to select boards.h now that we’re on boards.h we’re gonna do
a search on SKR underscore Pro and here’s the board that we’re looking
for its board underscore BigTree underscore SKR underscore Pro underscore
v1 underscore 1 so we’re going to copy this
and we’re going to close out of this we’re gonna fold this folder back up
we’re gonna fold this one up and we’re gonna go to configuration.h what
we’re gonna do is we’re gonna do a search on motherboard it will do a
search on mother and we want to highlight board underscore RAMPS
underscore one four underscore EFB and we want to paste what we just copied
then we’re gonna scroll up and right here where it says define serial port
zero we’re gonna change that to a negative one and then we’re gonna remove
the comment or define serial port underscore two and we’re gonna change
this the one next what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna do a search on LCD and SD
and what we have here is a choice for languages now you have numerous
languages to choose from this one currently is defaulted to English but
you can do let’s see Turkish Ukrainian
Russian do let’s see Espanol and you can do
Polish in a bunch of other languages so I’m gonna scroll down and show you a
little bit more here you have the option to actually set up different character
sets such as Japanese and probably Cyrillic as it says right here so keep
that in mind then we have let’s see SD support how this board has SD support so
I’m going to remove the comment and keep in mind that if you have any failures
with this there is a retry someplace in here that you can try out it’s actually
right here it’s SD check and retry but I’ll leave
that up to you to try out so what we want to do now is we actually want to
search on our actual board that we’re using we’re gonna do a search on let’s
see full underscore graphic and then underscore smart
what we have here is our actual definition but we’re gonna remove the
comment and it’s defined RepRap underscore discount underscore full
underscore graphic underscore smart underscore controller so that’s the
actual one that we’re using so what we’re gonna do next is we’re
going to go over to platformIO.ini and currently our default environment
for our board is megaatmega2560 that’s not what we’re currently using
for our board chipset so we’re gonna do a search on SKR underscore Pro we’re
going to press Enter and here is our actual board so we’re going to copy that
and we’re going to page up and we’re gonna replace megaatmega2560 with what we just copied so we’re gonna paste it right here
and then in order to compile it because we’re using an SD card we have to press
compile and then it’s going to prompt us to save so that’s what we’re going to do okay now that it’s finished actually
compiling we’re gonna check first to see if it completed successfully so we’re
gonna go to PlatformIO and we’re gonna go to toggle build panel
and as you can see it says that it’s successful within three minutes 24
seconds but we’re gonna toggle that again and now in order to load the build
we have to find it so we’re gonna go to dot Pio and we’re gonna open that folder
then we’re gonna go to the build folder then we’re gonna go to the BigTree SKR
Pro folder and as you can see there’s a firmware dot bin so we’re gonna right
click on this directory and we’re gonna say show in Explorer
but what we have down here is our Explorer we’re gonna go to the BigTree
underscore SKR underscore pro folder and open that up and here is our actual file
we’re gonna right click on that and we’re gonna go to send to and we’re
gonna send it to our SD card now we’re gonna click on our SD card to verify
that it’s there which it is now I’m going to remove this from the computer
and show you how to install it okay as you can see I have the SD card right
here so I’m gonna remove the TF drive from it I’m out of the computer where we
copied the firmware dot bin I’m gonna place this in the SD TF Drive right
here now we already have it set to 5 volts or power but what I’m going to do
is I’m gonna connect the serial USB or on the BigTreeTech SKR Pro version
1.1 I’m gonna attach the other end of the serial cable the computer and you’re
gonna hear a beep probably and this will load the firmware so note the flashing
and the center of the SKR Pro so here we go as you can see Marlin boot screen is coming up
